Designation Descriptions
The Chartered
Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional designation involves
a curriculum of rigorous college upper
division and graduate level courses in property and casualty insurance,
law, accounting, general business, economics, and management.
To obtain the designation, one must successfully complete eight
national examinations, three hours in length, in addition to
extensive insurance experience to commit to a code of high ethical
standards. Said to be the premier insurance program, CPCU is
comparable to the CPA designation in accounting. With the CPCU
designation, some universities extend several hours of credit toward a Masters
Degree in Insurance Management.
The Associate
in Risk Management (ARM) professional designation includes
a series of graduate level courses in risk reduction, and risk
management. Each course includes a three hour national
examination,
administered by the Insurance Institute of America, Incorporated of
Malvern, Pennsylvania.
